Using hair dryers or blow dryers is so common nowadays that the only comment it elicits is if you do not use them. Most people use blow dryers simply because it is more convenient and helps them get their hair in the desired shape. While the use of a hair dryer is fairly simple, there are some very elemental things that you need to follow to get the best out of your blow dryer.

Don’t think that a professional dryer is better for your hair. In the same way that a NASCAR driver would be a little too much as your chauffeur, you really do not need one of these for your hair. On the contrary, the excess heat and air flow may in fact cause you to get coarse, wrinkly hair and may even cause hair loss.

Do not hold the dryer too close to your head; hold it at least 6 inches away.

Never use your hair dryer on the maximum heat setting. It is better to use a low to medium heat setting and spend a little longer in drying your hair. There is more heat damage caused by using excessive heat than by using low heat for longer.

There is really no need for you to wave your dryer back and forth. This is done by most people simply because they think that it reduces the amount of heat damage. On the contrary, it does not help at all. Hair tends to retain heat and the fraction of a second that the nozzle is directed away from the hair is not sufficient to lower the temperature. Even then repeated heating and cooling is not good for your hair and will only make it brittle, causing it to break easily.

All the extra attachments that are given along with the dryer are best junked. Just use the one that gives you an optimum air flow. Everything else is really not needed. Most professionals just use one attachment and a brush for all their needs.

You get a better set when you go to a hair dressers not because of anything special in the dryer, but because they blow dry hair day in and day out. That is their job, and if you were in their place, you too would become as expert at it.

Always blow dry your hair only when it is damp, not when it is wet.

Lastly always blow dry your hair top down. It will cause you to give your arm muscles a workout, but that is a good thing, isn’t it. Doing it the other way round because you want to spare your arms means that you will have fizzy hair.

Some of you may already know these tips, while many others would not have. Whatever the case may be, it is just a small thing that I wanted to share with you to make your hair look better.

Getting sexy, sleek fashionable straight hair is possible to do yourself if you have the right tools and take the time to learn how to blow dry hair straight properly. Beauty and fashion experts agree that the keys to achieving a beautiful look are the right products for your hair type, high-quality brushes, a blow dryer with multiple heat settings including cold, and the willingness to take the time to do it right. The first step is to wash your hair and apply a conditioning rinse. Towel dry your hair and be sure it’s not dripping, and apply a detangler if necessary.

Next, apply a product that provides heat protection all the way through, especially to the ends, followed by a small amount (about the size of a quarter) of a straightening balm. Massage it evenly into your hair by first rubbing it between your palms and then onto the hair using your palms and fingertips. How to blow dry hair straight depends on the look you want, whether it’s stick straight or with more volume and texture. For stick straight hair use a flat-headed paddle brush, but for more volume and texture, use a round brush. Use a larger brush for longer hair.

If your hair is apt to become frizzy or curly, do not use your fingers to comb through fragile wet hair. A high-quality brush, particularly one with boar bristles, will produce the smoothest, sleekest look. Dividing your hair into sections from front to back and top to bottom to work with separately is how to blow dry hair straight and evenly. With the blow dryer set on low heat, take a small amount of hair, place the brush at the roots and pull it toward the ends in straight motion with the dryer 6 inches above it. Continue with the next section.

When the brush reaches the end of the hair, angle it to give it the desired look, whether it’s flipped up or tucked under. A gorgeous look is simple when you know how to blow dry hair straight. Always keep the brush under the hair and the dryer above it, blowing down from root to tip. Keep the dryer moving to avoid over-drying and uneven texture. Do not apply heat to already dry hair but use the cold setting if needed. The entire process is likely to take 30-40 minutes, so be patient. Doing it too fast will cause hair to become frizzy.

If you want to more easily achieve that straight hair look while keeping it healthy and shiny, the Farouk CHI Hair Dryer is the perfect choice. This blow dryer produces ionic positive energy or in other words, it uses a moist heat so that you can use less conditioner (which typically flattens and dulls hair) to create the styles you want.

What do Hillary Duff, Kristin Cavallari and Jennifer Aniston all have in common? Drop-dead gorgeous hair! Their secret? Krastase-a brand of luxury hair products made with avant-garde technology designed to transform your dull, lifeless hair into a shiny crown of glory, and we all agree that it lives up to its claim.

Krastase, unlike any other hair treatments line out on the market, truly captures the salon experience with its breakthrough formulations and patented active ingredients. It is this combination of luxury and innovation that has catapulted Krastase into the stratosphere of popularity among Hollywood stars and socialites, celebrity hair stylists and top models alike. Its broad range of products addresses not only hair issues, but also reestablishes the scalp as a healthy nursery for the hair. No matter what type of hair you have-thick, curly, fine or damaged, you can find a Krastase treatment that’s right for you. Today we’ll focus on three of the biggest hair dilemmas out there: sun damaged locks, long and tangled tresses, and limp and flat strands. We’ll show you how to turn your problematic, misbehaving hair into the bouncy, healthy mane of a goddess just like your favourite stars.

Sun Damaged Locks

First let’s talk about UV rays. We all know the harm these pesky rays can cause for our skin and eyes but we rarely think about the effects they have on our hair. Dry, split ends and colour fading are just two of the most common issues linked to sun exposure and they can literally suck the life out of any hair style. Luckily, Krastase has a secret weapon made to attack these specific problems. Part of Krastase’s Resistance line, Concentrate Vita-Ciment is a ceramide-based product that fortifies your hair fibers by reconstructing and strengthening them down to the intercellular level; it is an intensive repairing treatment for ultra-damaged hair. The application of Vita-Ciment is easy: spray the product onto clean, towel-dried hair and massage thoroughly from root to tip. Leave on for about 5 minutes and rinse. After using this treatment, your hair will be able to stand up to the heat against the sun’s hot rays, and it will be able to resist all the “torture” you put it through with all that blow-drying and hot-ironing.

Long & Tangled Tresses

Next we’ll explore options for those with long and tangled hair. Not only do tangled tresses look unpolished, they’re the cause of many frustrating “ouch” moments. The solution is none other than Krastase’s Age Recharge Treatment. The special formulation behind this product includes P-Liposome Molecule, Vitamin B3 and Vitamin E Derivative. These ingredients deliver the necessary nutrients to rebuild healthy hair structures and they also provide lipids which act as restoring agents to the surface of your hair. What does this mean in plain English? Smooth, oh-so-touchable hair that runs like silk, and tangle-free through and through!

Limp & Flat Strands

A voluminous, thick body of hair is the key sign of vitality, youth and sensuality, and that’s why fine, limp and flat hair-being the polar opposite of all that-is probably one of the most universally detested hair issues. Need a boost of volume? Krastase’s Resistance-Volumactive Rituals work in two parts to inject life back into your limp strands. First, apply Volumorphose which contains hydro-active molecules that create new substances at the core of the hair fibers for an expanding effect. Second, use Masque Volumactive which contains contouring polymers that restore inner substances to each hair fiber and give your overall hair style a natural and supple hold. These two steps combine to turn fine hair into visibly thicker, voluminous hair that lasts all day.

Tired of using the same dull shampoo and conditioner that don’t produce the “wow” results? It’s time to look into Krastase treatments and experience their incredible magic. If you have questions call The Salon Beauty Bar to book an appointment, we’d love to show you how wonderful this treatment really is.

For those feeling enslaved to their hair straighteners the end is in sight – that’s right, big hair is back! With many popular celebrities showcasing big and bouncy locks, high volume hair is now definitely back in style. It’s a glamorous look that’s sure to make you feel fabulous and feminine and perfect for a night out.

With the surge in popularity of blow-dry bars, getting the big haired look can be costly but this needn’t be the case. Any woman with bob length hair or longer can achieve a volumised look at home and it’s surprisingly easy. Just follow our step-by-step guide.

First, wash your hair with volumising shampoo and conditioner.

Then apply volumising spray to your damp hair, particularly at the roots.

Apply mousse to the roots of your hair

Dry your hair until it’s mostly but not quite dry, directing the air mostly at the roots at of your hair. Use a diffuser if you have one, using a circular motion to create extra volume.

When your hair is about 80% style and finish drying your hair using a large, round-barrelled hairbrush lifting and rolling the hair over the top of the barrel. Your style will be most effective if you go for a side parting as this allows for a nice big bouffant!

Now back comb your hair, or for a really full look, experiment with hair extensions and hair pieces. Or try a bump shaped hair insert for added height.

Fix your fabulous new do in place with plenty of hairspray and you’re good to go!

For really big and bouncy hair, many celebrities also like to add a gentle curl to their hair too. There are two easy ways to do this.

Heated rollers

Heated rollers give you a double-whammy of height around your crown and gently tumbling waves. Choose large rollers for loose curls – this look is not about tight ringlets. Follow the directions that come with your rollers. You’ll need to wind each roller so that the hair wraps around it up to your scalp. Roll so that the hair from your roots goes over the top of the roller. If you do it the other way you won’t get that all important body at the crown. Do this in sections for your whole head and leave on as directed by your instructions. To remove the rollers, let them drop out rather than pulling them. Then gently loosen and separate the curls with your fingers for beautifully bouncy tresses.

Curling tongs

Curling tongs are another great way to give your hair fabulous volume. Choose large barreled tongs or use the wider end of a cone shaped barrel. Roll the hair around the wand the same way you would with the rollers, so that the hair from the roots ends up going up and over the barrel rather than under. Repeat for as much of your head as you wish. It’s not necessary to do the whole head – a few evenly spaced wavy sections are enough to lift your whole look. Then you’ll need to gently pull out any tight curls with your fingers to loosen them a little and combine them with the rest of your hair. Finish with hairspray so that the curls don’t drop out; you don’t want your big hair to fall flat!

Finding a better way to put more volume in your hair can be difficult. Sure, there’s curling irons, mousse and gels-but what about other types of hair products? There are a variety of other types of hair care products out on the market that can achieve the volume that you desire.

Shampoos such as the Blow Up Daily Volumizing Shampoo are a terrific source of adding volume to your hair-without having to use those curling irons, or mousses if you don’t want to. Many people are concerned about what types of hair can use the Daily Volumizing Shampoo; there is no need for concern. Anyone is able to use the shampoo, even if they have had a chemical treatment done to it.

Many people, women in particular, have gone through a process called a keratin treatment. These long treatments take several hours in a salon, then several days at home. Once done, the hair is straight like a ruler. Adding volume to the hair after a keratin treatment is easily done by using the Blow Up Daily Volumizing Shampoo.

Another plus that anyone will find to add to their bag of tricks for adding volume to their hair is the Blow Up Daily Volumizing Conditioner. While it typically does better on fine and oily hair, it can be used on all hair types.

Considered a plus as well for those that have gone through keratin treatments, this conditioner uplifts the health of your hair. Moisture balances out naturally and manageability begins to return with regular use. Use the Blow Up Daily Volumizing Condition as you would any other conditioner. Add it to your hair, work it in and let it stay for a few minutes, and then totally rinse it out.

Looking for even more volume? There is another simple way to add it in. Take advantage of the Blow Up Root Lift Concentrate. Yes, it is truly as simply as it sounds. Using the bottle, spray the concentrate at the damp roots that you wish to add volume to, and blow dry. Use a brush to section things out, and that is it.

Finding a way to aid hair in gaining shine, strength and flexibility is something that everyone looks for. And, it is possible to find a product that will accomplish all that. Thanks to Blow Heat On Protective Styling Mist has literally no weight to it, so your hair will not be weighted down at all.

Choose to use the Blow Heat On Protective Styling Mist on either wet or dry hair. Wet hair use enables the user to have protection while using a blow dryer to style their hair. Should you be in need of a touch up, feel free to use it dry.

Finally, the Blow Out Hairspray is last in line of products to gain hair volume. Get rid of flyaway and frizz, and great long-lasting hold, for whatever style you may desire. Treat your hair with proteins so that it is healthier, too, thanks to the hairspray.

Blow Out Hair products provide you with many options for volume that don’t require curling, mousse ro gels. So take some time, and check them out!

Most people think basic hair care involves salon visits for hot oils and hair spas. To save on cost and to save that hair, we may need to practice personal hair care practices such washing, brushing, and styling. Let us start to beautify your hair from root to tip with this basic information in mind. Hair health and strength largely depends on oily scalp secretion and circulation which tends to give it gloss and luster. We must remember that it is made up of structured protein called keratin that determines its docility.

As soon as it comes out they die and become hardened to form the hair shaft and guard the most delicate layers below. Knowing that the shaft is dead it simply does not have the ability to repair itself thus making any damage permanent. To once again have shiny easy to manage hair, one must wait for new undamaged ones to grow. Generally it grows about ½” per month. The goal of this basic hair care is to minimize damage and provide temporary improvement.

We find hair in all shapes, sizes, and textures but taking care of them is practically the same all throughout the process. The ultimate skill one must learn is combing and brushing hair as an early morning routine. Detangle hair first with a large tail comb 11″ long made of bone that has ¼” of space between the teeth. It is not healthy to just pull or tug delicate hair strands because it will result to hair breakage. Combing makes it easy for us to wash the hair. Then brush the hair to help redistribute the oil and loosen dirt.

This is extremely beneficial for normal hair because it moves the oil from the scalp to the entire hair strands. Brush about 1″ away from your scalp if you have oily hair. To complete the process for long hair, try bending at the waist and put your head down then move the brush from the back of your head to the front. Never apply the 100 strokes a day myth for hair care because it is already excessive brushing that may cause more damage. Combing or brushing helps maintain a well groomed appearance.

The next best thing is to wash your hair with a mild shampoo as often as necessary. Wet your hair thoroughly with warm or lukewarm water to wash the oil and dirt off. Then pour shampoo on the palm of your hand, rub your hands together, and then apply the shampoo to your scalp. Shampoos have the components that may dry your hair and cause it to split so it is wise to apply the shampoo to your scalp and not at the ends of your hair directly. If your shampoo isn’t lathering it may need more water because it is not wet enough. Do not add anymore shampoos. During shampoo, massage the scalp with the tips of your fingers to avoid scalp irritation. A five minute scalp massage stimulates circulation and makes the hair grow. Make a good lather or foam and distribute it throughout the hair strands after doing scalp massage.

For excessively long or damaged hair, you may divide the scalp into quadrants or half then shampoo, just follow the process. Oily hair may need a second shampoo to get the hair and scalp thoroughly cleaned. Second shampoos also serve to treat the hair just leave it on your hair for a few seconds. Rinse hair completely using either lukewarm or warm water. Shampoos work best with warm water. Never pull or tug your hair to get the excess water out before applying conditioner. Simply squeeze the water out gently.

Soaking wet strands don’t absorb conditioner very well. Use conditioners after shampooing to coat hair strands with thin film for a smooth feel and to fill in rough, uneven surfaces. Conditioners add body and makes hair manageable. You should apply conditioners right after shampooing. Apply it along the hairline, nape, and ends of the hair. Wrap your hair with a hair cap and let it stay for about 10 minutes. Rinse off your hair with cold water to add shine to your hair and boost circulation in your scalp. Conditioner is already washed out when your hair feels slightly slippery. Best conditioners to use are protein based conditioners.

Wrap hair with a towel and pat it dry. Try not to rub hair to prevent hair breakage. Then comb wet hair with a wide toothed, smooth-edged comb with blunt tips. You may then work out tangles by combing gently from the ends and work towards the scalp. People always do this the wrong way. Never brush wet hair because it can tear your hair. Remember not to wash your hair more than once a day for you might be removing too much of the natural oil found in the hair. Try alternating shampoos using one type once or twice a week. Changing brands will keep your hair shiny and full of life. Traditional bar soaps are not recommended for hair use. Soap bonds with oil with such affinity that it tends to remove too much when used as a shampoo replacement.

Air drying or blow drying your hair is simply a matter of choice. Hair is not susceptible to damage when air dried as when it is blow dried. When blow drying set the temperature to medium and make sure the hair is not soaking wet. Hold the dryer at least 6″ away from your hair moving it constantly around your head. Then bend over and blow-dry your hair hanging upside down. Never dry your hair completely with a blow dryer. Hair is very fragile and it is best to stop while it is still slightly damp. Now we are done with basic hair care and you will see nice improvements in your hair for the next few weeks.
